Today a senior military figure let the cat out of the bag. It is no accident, as Pravda used to say in the old days, that Moldova is now formally proceeding with membership of the EU. The Commander ad interim of the Central Military district, Major-General Rustam Minnekaev (formerly Deputy Commander), announced that the Russian objective is not only to seize the Donbas and the southern Ukraine, which would seal of Ukraine from the Black Sea, but “also make posssible access to Pridnestrova” (Transnistria, which neighbours Moldova). Thus wherever Russians live, Moscow thinks it has a right to annexe, just as did Nazi Germany, which took Romania on the grounds that Germans could be found there. And we know where that ended.
